In the pet insurance world, we're all working towards a world of healthier pets. When it comes to how we do that, we feel like we've really hit the sweet "spot." See how our policies differ from Petplan policies.
How do Spot and Petplan policies differ?
Petplan doesn't have preventive coverage options (Spot provides it for a little extra cost).
Petplan doesn't cover microchipping.
Petplan doesn't offer a multi-pet discount.
Petplan policyholders must have their pet examined within 30 days of policy start (if they haven't been to the vet 6 months prior to policy start).

4 Reasons to consider Spot over Petplan
1. Petplan doesn't have preventive care options
Petplan doesn’t offer preventative care coverage, but they require pet parents to take pets for preventative care visits to remain eligible for coverage. To support pet parents with routine care visits, Spot has Preventive Care plans that policyholders can add to their coverage for a little extra cost. Spot does not require pet parents to go in for any particular visits, though.
2. Petplan doesn't cover microchipping
Microchip implantation is quick and simple and can help pet parents reunite with lost pets. The average cost of microchip implantation is $451, and all Spot policies cover the small procedure. Petplan policies do not cover microchipping.
3. Petplan doesn't offer a multi-pet discount
We know that many pet lovers can't have just one! Spot is happy to provide a 10% multi-pet discount for all added pet policies.*** WIth Petplan, any added pets (second, third, fourth, etc.) will still have a full-priced premium.
4. Petplan may require an exam within 30 days of the policy start date
Petplan requires new policyholders to take pets for an annual check-up and dental cleaning within 6 months of the policy start date to be eligible for claims approval. While Spot understands the importance of check-ups, there are no required visits at any point.
