The Gulf state of Louisiana is home to Chagas disease, an infectious disease found in many different species of kissing bugs (triatomine bugs). All mammals are thought to be susceptible to infection from this disease, but dogs are at major risk of developing this disease and infecting others. This disease is commonly mistaken for heartworm disease due to their symptoms and risk of affecting a similar population of dogs. Changas disease is often transmitted to dogs orally, usually by consumption of kissing bug feces. Pet Insurance FAQs

Have questions about pet insurance and how it works? Let’s dig up an answer.

Should I get pet insurance or save money instead?

It’s hard to predict whether that surprise bill will be $500 or $5,000. Pet Insurance might not seem “worth it” until you’re one of the pet owners who have a surprise bill for an unexpected accident or illness. With a Spot plan, eligible vet bills for covered conditions will be reimbursed up to the specified rate, regardless of how much money you saved beforehand.

Do Plans Provided by Spot Have a Money-back Guarantee?

Plans provided by Spot offer a 30-day money-back guarantee, so feel free to take a look and see what a SPOT plan can do for you and your pet. If, within the first 30 days of your policy you wish to cancel, you can get a full refund of the premium amount.  The 30-day money-back guarantee is available if no claims have been covered.  It’s not available in NY or ME.

Why do pet insurance premiums go up?

These necessary increases provide you the opportunity to get help offering your pet the best medical treatment options available for eligible conditions.

Additionally, your premium will be affected by your pet's age each year, as the risk for more costly claims grows higher. Spot strives to provide plans with coverage that continue well into your pet's old-age by not placing upper-age limitations on coverage or enrollments.

Your premium will not increase due to filing a claim.

Can I get pet insurance for my older dog?

Better late than never is what we think about pet insurance! Older pets can have higher vet bills as they are more prone to accidents and illnesses as they age. A Spot plan can help you cover eligible vet bills for covered conditions.

Can I Get Reimbursed for Routine Teeth Cleanings?

Base level plans provided by Spot do not cover routine teeth cleanings.

However, Spot accident & illness plans cover treatments for dental illnesses.  The only treatment covered for dental accidents is tooth extractions.

To get reimbursed on routine cleanings for your dog or cat’s general wellbeing, you’ll need to add preventive coverage to your base plan for a little extra cost per month.

What does dog insurance typically cover?
