Ready for a playful purring machine to enter your life? Whether you’re on the hunt for a tiny kitten or full-sized cat, you might consider a dozen characteristics before you actually land on the right type of cat for you. You might consider several cat types and compare the various Siamese cat breeds such as seal point, chocolate point, blue point and lilac point, or even a flame point. You’ll also want to include the right size, color and more when deciding which cat is best for you. Each type of cat breed harbors specific physical characteristics and personality traits.

You may want to choose the right cat for you based on its physical characteristics. In that case, Siamese cats, one of the most popular cat breeds, offer one of the most distinctive looks of all domestic cat choices.

No matter which Siamese cat you choose, covering them with cat insurance will help offset their vet costs to ensure that they live long and happy lives.

Siamese Cat Characteristics

One of the most striking Siamese attributes might actually put you under their spell: Their crystal-blue eyes. Their distinct coat with specific color points on the face, ears, paws and tail, results from a genetic mutation.

The breed also features large, pointy ears, sleek bodies and skinny tails. These athletic, agile cats can weigh 3.8 to 4.8 kg (males) and females can weigh 2 to 4.2 kg. You can expect Siamese cats to live 15 to 20 years with a healthy diet and excellent care.

Siamese Cat Temperament

You may wonder what it’s like to take care of a Siamese Cat before you take the plunge. These chatty, sociable cats like to “talk” loudly with their pet parents. You might even say this cat breed acts more like a dog because they generally offer their pet parents lots of affection – though you might find a few grumpy Siamese cats here and there.

They need constant playtime and activity to keep themselves busy. In general, they like to command center stage and don’t like to spend long hours alone. You may not want to get a Siamese cat if you work long hours or spend all your time away from home.

Offer your Siamese plenty of toys so that they stay mentally stimulated and physically active.

Types Of Siamese Cats

Let’s dive into the four original color types. These colors vary into four different color types: seal point, chocolate point, blue point and lilac point. Other cat breeds, like the Oriental, the Balinese, the Tonkinese and the Havana Brown, originate from the Siamese.

Seal Point Siamese Cats

Seal Point Siamese cats distinguish themselves with white or fawn bodies and darker points on their nose, ears, tails and feet. Interestingly, you can find darker portions on their face, ears, paws and tail because that’s the coolest part of their bodies. The less body heat on that part of the body, the darker their fur.

Chocolate Point Siamese Cats

The Chocolate Point Siamese cat, also called “Choccies” for short, are rarer than Seal Point Siamese cats. However, both types carry such similarities that you can’t tell the Chocolate Point and Seal Point apart as kittens – only when they get older can you tell the difference.

Chocolate Point Siamese cats have ivory bodies with milk chocolate color points on their noses, ears, paws and tail.

Blue Point Siamese Cats

Blue Point Siamese cats definitely stand out. As you might imagine, you can find bluish fur on their faces, on the tips of the ears, tails and feet. You can even see some bluish fur on some Blue Point Siamese cats’ bellies as well.

Lilac (or Lavender) Point Siamese Cats

Lilac Point Siamese cats show up as the lightest of the four. They can feature beautiful, pale cream to white fur. Their coats may not even show much shading during their first few years of life and grow slightly darker as they get older.

Overall, they look light, pinkish-grey and brown and their noses and paw pads show up as a light lavender or pink.
