Who doesn’t like a huge hairy-fluffy cuddly-cuddly baby in the form of a dog? Well even the not-so dog lovers will fail here to control them and rush to hug and cuddle with them. Now there isn’t one but a lot of dog breeds which are exactly how I described above. Some may actually look like floating clouds in and around your house.

5. Pekingese

  • Average Weight: 6 to 14 pounds (male and female)

  • Average Height: 6 to 9 inches (male and female)

  • Life Expectancy: 12 to 15 years

  • Origin – China

One of the only 2 dog survivors in the Titanic, the Pekingese breed, originated in China. Referring the name to the city Peking (Beijing), they were originally used a companion dog by the royalty of the Chinese Imperial Court. Gold, red or sable, cream, black, white, tan, black-and-tan are all the colors in which the coat has been seen. Due to their abundance of fur, it is important to keep the Pekingese cool. Keeping the Pekingese coat healthy and presentable requires daily brushing and a trip to the groomer every 8–12 weeks which is more than usual but just another caution before owning a fluffy dog.

4. Bichon Frise

The ‘Curly haired dog’ which the name Bichon Frise translates to in French, is a sailing dog developed in Spain. However, it is usually depicted as a French dog as the people of France developed a lap-dog version of the same. 3. Coton De Tulear

Named after the city of Tulear in Madagascar, Coton De Tulears are is not a furry but a hairy dog with soft voluptuous hair. The name itself talks about the appearance of this breed – cotton like. They literally look like a big cotton ball with a a prominent black nose, large expressive eyes, and somewhat short legs. This playful, affectionate, intelligent breed is a quite one but can turn loud when having fun. Like a party animal, they are known to get the most active during evenings. 2. Lhasa Apso

  • Average Height: 10 to 12 inches (male and female)

  • Life Expectancy: 12 to 14 years

  • Origin – Tibet

Known to be originated in the capital city of Tibet, from where it gets its name, the Lhasa Apso breed is a very long haired one. Some of them may even remind the Potterheads of Professor Dumbledore. They were brought to the UK by the military men returning from the Indian subcontinent. The word Apso is said to have come from the Tibetan word “ag-tshom which means ‘Goatee’. It is one of the non-sporting breed, which was developed to be used as a interior sentinel. Their coat is thick and heavy, with a hard straight outer coat and a medium under-coat.

A thick white, double layer coated is what a Samoyed dog or the Sammie will look like. Taking its name from the Samoyedic people of Siberia they are domesticated animals used for herding, hunting, protection and sled pulling. The appearance is so magnificent that the fact that it needs extra grooming doesn’t bother the owners. It basically is the benchmark for any white fluffy dog out there. And just like its soft appearance, they are soft by heart as well. They will love their owners as well as strangers. The China originated dog; Chow Chow is a sturdy dog with a thick dense double coat. These hunting and herding dogs and the pet of ex-US President Calvin Coolidge, have a dominant personality. The dominance comes along with the aggressive nature. a great companion for walking, trekking, hiking, running, etc. The muscular build is what makes them resemble their ancestors and are used to pull distances for a long distance.

This is not an exhaustive list. There are a lot of fluffy dog breeds out there by looking at whom you’ll just feel like lifting them up and holding them close to feel their softness along your skin and face. With Big Fluff comes Big Responsibility. Because of their heavy furs and hairs, most of these breeds would require a regular grooming and maintenance. Most often this means growing their coat out, and keeping up with daily brushing to fluff out their coat. It becomes important to separate their individual hairs while removing mats and tangles by brushing thoroughly.
