At SPOT, we embrace comparison shopping because it’s easy to see how our coverage outperforms the competition. When it comes to comparing the way reimbursement and preventive care are handled, you’ll definitely notice some differences between SPOT Pet Insurance and Nationwide.
SPOT vs. Nationwide Pet Insurance
Reimbursement on Claims
It’s common for pet insurance providers to have a range of reimbursement options that you can choose from, just as your human health insurance provider might.
SPOT Reimbursement Options
SPOT provides you with three different percentages of reimbursement to cover your dog or cat in case of accidents or illness: 90%, 80%, and 70%. This range, along with a variable deductible and repayment total, allows you to customize your policy and dial in an affordable monthly payment. By setting a higher deductible, you can customize a lower premium, for example.
Nationwide Set Reimbursement
Nationwide offers just one percentage: 90%. And that’s only with their premium plan. Their other plans cap your reimbursement per condition or service.
Preventive care, or wellness care, is an optional add-on to accident or illness coverage. You can pay a bit more on your premium to get coverage for some routine vet visits.
SPOT Preventive Care Options
SPOT provides the option of preventive care for as little as $9.95 a month, which reimburses you a set amount for a comprehensive list of services that safeguard your pet from future health concerns. Some inclusions: select vaccines, flea and heartworm preventatives, and dental cleanings. There is no deductible cost or co-insurance payment required. And you can immediately begin using the coverage without any waiting period.
Nationwide Whole Pet with Wellness
With Nationwide Whole Pet, you must cover your deductible and the cost of a 10% co-pay before you can receive reimbursement for these same services. You’d also have to put off using the coverage for a 14-day waiting period.
No Upper Age Limits with SPOT
SPOT offers illness coverage for any pet older than six weeks, and we don’t place an upper age limit, in order to protect senior pets as they become more vulnerable to becoming sick.
Nationwide Age Limits
However, there are upper and lower age limits for new enrollments in Nationwide plans: a 10-year-old maximum age limit for Nationwide Medical and Feline Select plans, and a one-year-old minimum age limit for their Whole Pet with Wellness plan.
Multiple Pet Discount
SPOT 10% Discount
Have more than one pet? Awesome. SPOT gives you a 10% discount for each additional pet.
Nationwide 5% Discount
Nationwide only offers 5% off a second or third pet. You would have to open policies on more than four pets to reach a 10% discount.
Money Back Guarantee
SPOT 30-Day Money-Back Guarantee
SPOT gives you a 30-day money-back guarantee.* That’s 30 days in which to experience our service and explore your policy, and still get your money back if you’re not satisfied, as long as no claims are filed.
Nationwide 10-Day Money-Back Guarantee
Nationwide’s money-back guarantee is 10 days. 10 days is hardly enough time to determine how comfortable you are with what you’ve paid for.
